“Allan P. Friedlander”

Allan P. Friedlander is one of the longest current members of my artist group, the Artists Guild of San Francisco.

What I’ve noticed about this tall, very friendly man is that he is not just an Artist but also a great salesman. He would probably deny it, but I’ve seen Allan sell his Art when nobody else could. He could sell leaves to a tree if he wanted to.

But no salesman can be successful for long without good product, and Allan definitely delivers that. His paintings are often flowers or Napa Valley scenery, with bold and vibrant colors. His work brightens up any room.

“Timon Sloane”

Illuminated-900pxThe newest member of the AGSF is none other than Timon Sloane, a landscape painter who uses pastels.

It’s not easy to create convincing imagery with pastel. Timon has a good eye for composition, detail, and depth.

His paintings are framed and even more impressive in person, but here is his website:

“Michael Rodman – San Francisco Artist”

Venticello Vista 40x30

A standout Artist in the Artist Guild of San Francisco is Michael Rodman. His work is very consistent, and to my eyes it looks as if he uses a pallete knife to scoop oil paint onto the canvas.

Up close his work looks loose and abstract, but it all comes together when the viewer steps back.

Michael’s choice of subject matter fits him. You can ask him damn near anything about the City and he can tell you where it is.

For those collectors on a budget he often paints small pieces on cigar boxes. Here’s his website:

“Tucky Goes To Jail”

No, not really. LOL.

But I did make a visit to the San Leandro Detention Center. This picture is not me or even the kids that I met, but that’s what the classrooms inside look like. I wasn’t allowed to take photos, and I found this picture on their Facebook page.

Who I found inside is exactly what’s found at any place where kids are, schools or otherwise: Fascination With Art.

Many of the questions they had were more down-to-earth than the high schoolers. “How do you make money at that?”, “Where can I show my work when I’m ready?”

These young men were just as attentive and respectful as any of the schools I’ve spoken to.jesus

Below is some artwork that was created by one of the inmates, sent to me via email.

I’m going to make these facilities a part of my routine. I hadn’t spoken there before, and the vibe was all positive.

“Carole Moore”

A talented self-taught Artist in the AGSF is none other than Carole Moore.

11Kblue triptych  Carole’s subject matter is water based, whether it’s Koi, Sea Turtles, water gardens, etc. Beautiful stuff.

I was impressed by the fact that she has no formal training, and learned more by trial and error.

Carole is currently the President of the AGSF, which requires juggling a lot of hats, so her tenacity to learn how to paint is just a part of her makeup. If I’m not mistaken, Carole also has a regular job, too! Whew…
